This is the biggest event of the year for cardiovascular health, and a key opportunity to raise awareness of heart disease, its consequences, and how it can be prevented.
Cardiovascular disease is the world’s number one killer, claiming an estimated 17.9 million lives every year. 80% of those deaths can be prevented by tackling behavioural risk factors such as tobacco use, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity and unhealthy dietary habits.
This beloved landmark will be one of several monuments around the world to highlight this important cause.
The theme of this year’s campaign is My Heart, Your Heart, which is about bringing people together and creating a sense of commitment around the common cause of heart health. On World Heart Day, we will ask people to become heart heroes by making a simple promise to someone they love or care about. A promise to eat more healthily, to be more active, to say no to smoking.
Our aim is to educate, inspire and motivate people to keep their hearts healthy, while encouraging them to act as influencers themselves.
